Yes: SwissDuo arranges personal song requests for piano and cello. We assess the specific recording and the intended musical moment before confirming whether a piece suits this line-up. Here is how a song becomes an instrumental arrangement.
What stays, and what changes?
A familiar melody, a distinctive rhythm or a recurring motif makes a song recognisable. We identify the elements that carry its character and adapt the parts originally played by voices, guitars, bass or electronic instruments for two musicians.
The cello may carry the vocal melody, play a countermelody or support the sound with lower notes. The piano combines harmony and rhythm and can introduce important motifs from the original. The distribution of these roles depends on the piece.
Which songs suit piano and cello?
Melodic pop ballads, film music and many classical works offer good starting points. Our repertoire includes “Perfect”, “All of Me”, “Moon River” and “A Thousand Years”. We discuss whether your additional request already has an arrangement or needs a new one.
Rhythmic pop and rock songs can also work. For music built mainly around rap, electronic effects or complex studio production, we look carefully at which elements can be conveyed on piano and cello.
What happens to the lyrics?
An instrumental performance has no sung words. Melody and instrumental sound take centre stage. If a particular line of text is essential to your choice, tell us before we plan the piece: an instrumental version does not automatically convey the same meaning as the lyrics.
Our recording of “Perfect” illustrates how the cello carries a vocal melody in dialogue with the piano.
Entrance, listening moment or drinks reception?
Entrance music needs to suit the walking distance and available time. A dedicated listening moment allows a longer musical arc, while reception music accompanies conversation. We agree on the opening, any repetitions and the ending in advance. For a church wedding, discuss the selection with the officiant as well.
Is a larger ensemble necessary?
Many songs can be performed expressively by the duo. Guest numbers alone do not determine the ensemble size: acoustics, space and amplification also matter. If your request suggests a different line-up, we discuss the options and preparation involved.
How do we assess your request?
Send the title, artist, recording link, event date and intended musical moment. We then discuss feasibility, preparation and terms. A new arrangement takes time to develop, notate and rehearse; we confirm the required lead time and price after reviewing your request.
See our guide to requesting an arrangement, or send the details through our contact page.
