About the piece and our interpretation
Bach–Gounod’s Ave Maria combines Charles Gounod’s melody with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Prelude in C major. SwissDuo performs the work on cello and piano, with Sandi Toka Nova and Irina Grebaus in a Christmas setting. The recording offers a quiet space for listening to the interplay between the sustained melody and flowing accompaniment.
Ave Maria can be part of a Christmas concert or a ceremonial programme. Couples may also consider it for a church wedding, coordinating the choice and timing with the person responsible for the service. This performance is specifically the Bach–Gounod Ave Maria, a different composition from Franz Schubert’s work of the same familiar name.
