About the piece and our interpretation
Handel’s Largo is widely known as Ombra mai fu from the opera Serse, also called Xerxes. In SwissDuo’s cello and piano performance, the vocal line becomes a sustained instrumental melody. Its measured pace and clear phrasing make room for a calm, ceremonial listening experience.
Although its origin is operatic, Ombra mai fu can provide music for a variety of formal occasions. A wedding ceremony, classical reception or memorial may each call for a different presentation. We discuss the context and timing with you. This video introduces the sound of the duo and helps you consider how an unhurried classical piece might fit your programme.
