About the piece and our interpretation
SwissDuo’s Kazakh Folk Songs Medley brings together four songs: Yapurai, Akan Seri’s Karatorgai, Dudarai and Yestai’s Naz Konyr. Irina Grebaus and Sandi Toka Nova arranged and performed the music for piano and cello. The official music video was filmed in Charyn Canyon in Kazakhstan.
The open landscape frames a sequence of contrasting melodies and moods. Rather than presenting just one song, the medley connects several musical themes in a continuous performance. The recording shares the duo’s connection with Kazakh music and offers inspiration for a cultural programme, an international concert or an event with a personal link to Kazakhstan.
